What an amazing year 2016 has been for Äänijooga so far!
Back in February we brought our series to Lapinlahden Lähde. What a wonderful, dreamy time we had building our practice with you in the old corridor of the men's ward. We could feel the history of the space all around us. Back in March we had our smallest and most intimate Äänijooga gathering yet at Oranssi in Suvilahti, a fun, playful, and inviting community space which we will certainly come back to again as soon as we can!
Just 2 days ago was perhaps the most momentous Äänijooga gathering we've had yet: we had the amazing privilege of gathering inside the hand-woven work of Ernesto Neto at Kiasma, which was truly nothing short of magical. I felt like I was transported back into the colours and sounds of my childhood imagination, and here's hoping some of you were able to experience something equally as pleasurable.
With this said, our deepest gratitude for those who have joined us to share in these experiences. It has been fun to see new, interesting faces at these sessions, and heartwarming to see familiar faces returning. To build these soundscapes around and for you, and to teach and move with you has been a great pleasure and honour for both Reeta and I (Ava).
As spring moves into full swing and summer holds promise of being just around the corner, the excitement grows to move our sessions into new spaces. We will be back at Kiasma for our very first children's session on May 14th as part of Children's Day. The challenge of creating a unique and wonderful experience for both parents and children excites the imagination.
On May 28th, we will bring our practice to Kattilahalli as part of an exhibit hosted by Catalysti—a collective of foreign artists living in Finland. As a group that is both Finnish and foreign, we are proud and excited to represent ourselves at this exhibit as an example of the coming together of cultures. It is at this event we get to participate in something that has no geographical boundaries, and simply be present with our fellow humans in a big and beautiful space (and surrounded by amazing art).
As summer kicks in we look forward to being able to practice outdoors. Äänijooga under the stars is in the works, and another session at Lapinlahden Lähde will take place in the wonderfully peaceful garden once weather permits.
We once again want to thank each of you for joining us in our past Äänijooga sessions—to develop our practice bit by bit with you has been an absolute joy and a big learning experience. We cannot wait to keep going, and we will see you all soon at Kiasma, Kattilahalli, or somewhere in the summer sun.
Namaste,
Team Äänijooga
